US INDEPENDENT Anadarko Petroleum will test a new play concept in the far eastern US Gulf of Mexico after acquiring operatorship of the potentially large Opal prospect from Murphy Oil.
Anadarko and Murphy own the prospect in a 50:50 partnership.
Murphy had previously planned drilling to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, and sources indicated that Anadarko plans to stick to that schedule.
