Mbawa represents Kenya’s first offshore discovery and comes hard on the heels of the country’s debut onshore Ngamia-1 oil find made earlier this year by Tullow Oil.
Tullow, which has a minority stake in the Mbawa-1 well, said the probe in licence L8 hit about 52 metres of net gas pay in its shallowest objective after being drilled to a depth of 2553 metres below the drill floor.
