Since entering the North Sea in 2003, Apache has had stellar success rejuvenating the fortunes of the Forties field, previously held by UK supermajor BP — increasing flagging output from 40,000 barrels per day 10 years ago to consistently above 60,000 bpd in recent years.

However, for many years the company was being asked whether Forties was the only card Apache could play.

The answer — an emphatic “no” — came in 2011 when it announced it was buying Beryl, establishing its second core UK region.
