Success at Appomattox, along with Shell’s and Nexen’s initial discovery at Shiloh in 2003 followed by a second discovery at Vicksburg in 2007, has bolstered the case for a floating platform to host production.
Nexen said the exploration well, drilled by Transocean semi-submersible Deepwater Nautilus, and two appraisal sidetracks at Appomattox — the second sidetrack was carried out to further delineate the discovery — revealed “excellent reservoir quality” exceeding pre-drill expectations.
