Reserves found by India's ONGC Videsh last year are estimated at 11 trillion cubic feet and may be part of a reservoir shared with Saudi Arabia.
The company was awarded the 6700 square kilometre block in 2003 outside Iran's first open licensing round for eight offshore blocks.
It reported an oil find in late 2006 and a gas find in early 2007.
