Argentina has named Gustavo Lopetegui as energy secretary after predecessor Javier Iguacel submitted his resignation.

Lopetegui was working as an advisor to President Mauricio Macri prior to his being given an energy portfolio that has become a political hot potato because of the economic pressures for higher utility rates and public resistance to ending subsidies.

Iguacel submitted his resignation shortly after press leaks suggested that the economically troubled administration was planning swingeing increases in utility rates.
