Argentina’s first offshore licensing round is attracting interest from companies eyeing a vast but unproven South Atlantic frontier play.

The 38 blocks on offer include seven in the Colorado and Salado sub-basins, off northern Argentina, with water depths ranging between 200 and 1300 metres.

The round — launched recently by Argentine Energy Minister Javier Iguacel — also includes seven deep-water blocks in the same region, extending downslope into the Argentina basin.
