Global oil companies’ appetites for frontier exploration acreage in Latin America have not yet been satisfied.

That’s a key takeaway from Argentina’s first deep-water bid round, which attracted 13 top players to place more than $700 million in high bids this week, despite only nascent knowledge of the underexplored areas.

Already a rising star on the oil and gas scene, Argentina will add a new area of interest to its promising Vaca Muerta shale and existing Tierra del Fuego offshore gas play.
