Joint venture partner Woodside Petroleum and BHP Billiton have surrendered an offshore gas discovery off northwest Australia that was made in September 2000.
The Argus gas discovery was made in Block AC/P30 by BHP Billiton just over 17 years ago.
It is estimated to contain 1.5 trillion cubic feet of dry gas.
Woodside later joined BHP on the basis that Argus had the potential to be even larger, as well as its proximity to Woodside’s Browse development.
