Russian gas monopoly Gazprom, which recently helped complete a gas pipeline from Iran to Armenia, would be involved in the products line, as well as a crude pipeline and the refinery, as part of a joint venture.

"Swap deals would be possible for Armenia in the Persian Gulf if the refinery is built," says Armenia's Deputy Energy Minister Ara Simonyan.

Only a preliminary agreement with Iran on the refinery exists and any start of work has effectivelybeen delayed by one to two years because of the collapse in world oil prices in the second half of 2008.
