The Atwood Achiever will be identical to the previously ordered Atwood Advantage with dynamic positioning thrusters and dual derricks for operating in water depths up to 12,000 feet with a maximum drilling depth of 40,000 feet.
Delivery is expected by 30 June 2014.
It will be the 16th mobile offshore drilling unit owned by Atwood.
Atwood said it has secured “modifications” to the one remaining priced option to construct an additional ultra-deepwater drillship, which requires commitment by 31 July 2012.
