Australia’s exploration and production is split on an east-west divide, and very few oil and gas companies participate on both sides of that divide, including the country’s largest producer Woodside Petroleum.
Perth-based Woodside is Australia’s largest producer, just ahead of BHP Billiton, and operates exclusively in the North West Shelf and Timor Sea.
This is a legacy of Woodside being the original holder of 370,000 square kilometres of acreage on the North West Shelf in the 1960s.
