The Biotechnology in Oil Recovery (BioRec) project will explore whether bacteria and enzymes can boost oil production in the Danish North Sea and if Scandinavian beetle protein can prevent gas pipelines from freezing.
Many large fields that were discovered several years ago can develop recovery problems resulting from changing reservoir conditions and ageing infrastructure, meaning that more than 50% of remaining oil in reservoirs is left behind when fields are abandoned, according to Maersk.
