The European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD) has approved $500 million in financing for the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (Tanap), which is aimed at strengthening Europe’s energy security through Caspian Sea gas supplies.
The decision by the bank’s board was condemned by international watchdog groups, which accused the EBRD of “overlooking the continued repression of civil society and media in both Azerbaijan and Turkey”.
