According to Friends of the Earth International (FoEI), banks including Barclays, Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse and Natixis are alleged to still be pumping cash into Energi Mega Persada (EMP) subsidiary Lapindo Brantas, which operates the onshore block where mud has been spewing for more than a year after a well control incident in May 2006.
FoEI is demanding that international financial institutions withhold any more financing from Lapindo Brantas until it compensates those affected by the disaster.
