The Barrow Island oilfield is a legacy asset for Chevron. It was discovered in 1964 by a joint venture company in which Chevron owned equity, and was brought on stream in 1967.

Almost 300 million barrels of oil have been produced, and the rate of oil output in 2004 averaged 8220 barrels per day. Associated gas is also produced.

Chevron has hired the ODE Rig 16 for two wells on Barrow Island in the final quarter of 2005.
