INTERNATIONAL giants Statoil and Shell are competing over development of the emerging Power Nap field in the deep-water US Gulf.

Statoil is investigating an option to quickly develop its portion of the field through an existing platform.

The Norwegian state player is drilling ahead on an exploration well it calls Power Nap, targeting the same sub-salt Miocene reservoir that yielded a discovery of the same name for Shell and Freeport-McMoRan in January.
