John Richels, president at partner Devon Energy, said the probe, drilled to 16,000 feet, encountered hydrocarbons in three Miocene zones with the most significant holding 90 feet of net pay.
"It appears to be a complex reservoir system," said Richels, pointing out more drilling is needed with a follow-up well due in late 2006 or early 2007.
Commenting at the same time on Devon's own operated Venus discovery in block P off Rio Muni, Richels said it holds similar multiple channel sands to ExxonMobil's large Zafiro field, where Devon is a partner.
