The division’s president Tim Cutt unveiled some of his vision at a recent briefing and said the Australian assets are “the cash generation engine for our business”.
By that, he was referring to the wheels of production in Bass Strait, the North West Shelf LNG and oil project, the Pyrenees and Stybarrow oil projects and the Macedon gas field.
All up, those assets produced 80 million barrels of oil equivalent net to BHPB in 2013, making the company the second-largest producer in Australia behind Woodside Petroleum.
