BHP Billiton hit natural gas at Trinidad & Tobago’s first deep-water well and is now drilling ahead on a second deep-water wildcat.

The Australian minerals giant hit gas in multiple zones in its LeClerc well, which was drilled to a total depth of 22,876 feet on Block TTDAA 5, about 216 kilometres off Trinidad’s east coast, the company said.

LeClerc, formerly known as Pegleg, was drilled on a Miocene-aged structure that runs 20 kilometres long and five kilometres wide.
