A spokesman for the government’s Crown Minerals agency said an announcement on the outcome of the blocks offer would be made in early June. He would not elaborate on how many bids were made or on the identity of the
bidders.

Two large blocks were offered in the Raukumara basin off the north-east coast of the North
Island.

Water depths ranged from very shallow to more than 3000 metres at the basin’s northern edge.
