City of London analysts now believe Laidlaw could be courted as the future boss of British independent Enterprise Oil. His departure is expected to herald a seismic shift in the make-up of New York-headquartered Amerada's exploration and production business.
Analysts believe there will be a US colonisation of an organisation that under Laidlaw was remarkably British. In the long run there could even be a question mark over Amerada's prestigious London office.
