The fire was caused by a well blowout during infill drilling by the Global Santa Fe jack-up drilling rig Adriatic IV, which spread to the Temsah platform.
Pictures obtained by Upstream show the full extent of the fire. Fortunately nobody was injured in the incident but eye-witnesses said that the blaze turned rapidly into a fireball.
Sources said that survivers, some of whom had tojump into the water before their evacuation by boat, said that when they reached a safe distance they turned to see a blaze of ferocious intensity,
In total,150 people were evacuated from the rig and the Temsah production platform.
