Worst hit are fields operated by Sinopec because 30-centimetre thick ice covering 40% of the sea area has affected logistics, preventing supply vessels travelling to and from platforms and onshore terminals.
Bohai sources said cold weather has also damaged subsea pipelines in shallow-water areas at Bohai Bay, forcing Sinopec to shut production at some fields there.
“Up to 70 supply vessels are being anchored, unable to provide services to the platforms,” said one source.
