BP is set next year to take the final investment decision on its latest deep-water oilfield development off Angola after agreeing with state player Sonangol to proceed with the project.

The UK supermajor expects to sanction the Platina development on its operated Block 18 in the second quarter, with first oil seen either in late 2021 or early 2022.

The field, which was discovered in 1999 and sits in water depths of around 1300 metres, will be tied back to the existing Greater Plutonio floating production, storage and offloading unit on the same block, BP said this week.
