BP is plotting a cautious return to core exploration in the Gulf of Mexico, potentially starting as soon as this year, having recently focused on optimising results at its existing deep-water hubs in the region and developing new prospects close to those facilities.
The UK supermajor is constantly looking for new plays and extensions across the US Gulf and into Mexico, senior executive Starlee Sykes told an industry conference last week in Houston.
