The Valhall facilities, including platforms installed 34 years ago and now producing between 55,000 and 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, are slowly sinking as oil and gas is pumped out of the chalk reservoirs 2500 metres below the seabed, causing subsidence.

Originally, the platforms were designed to last 20 years, but now BP wants to use them into the 2020s.
