UK supermajor BP has taken the final investment decision on the Train 3 expansion at its Tangguh liquefied natural gas project in Papua Barat (West Papua), Indonesia.

The final investment decision coincided with the award of two key contracts for the expansion that will boost Tangguh’s nameplate LNG capacity to 11.4 million tonnes per annum.

BP is understood to have gained approval from Indonesia’s upstream regulator SKK Migas for a revised $8 billion to $10 billion expansion plan of development, although the operator has not confirmed this figure.
