BP planning to go cagey on Kaskida development

BP is plotting a deliberate, phased approach to development of the Kaskida field in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico based upon a floating production, storage and offloading vessel with an initial process capacity of around 60,000 barrels per day of oil in order to prove first the productivity of the tight permeability reservoirs.

Just four or five production wells would be completed in this initial phase but, if they are successful, BP will proceed with more development drilling and eventually water injection. Industry observers suggest that BP is imitating the approach of Petrobras with its similar phased approach to the Cascade-Chinook development, which also produces via tie-back to a FPSO.

Moreover, BP could replicate the field development model for Tiber and Gila with their own dedicated FPSOs.
