UK supermajor BP is quietly gearing up for a fast-track development of a closely guarded discovery in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico off the US, using a stand­alone floater concept based on a previous design.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the operator is shopping for a contractor to help develop the undisclosed Hopkins discovery in the Green Canyon area on an engineering, procurement, construction and installation basis.
