The UK supermajor has completely shut in oil and gas production from Mad Dog in Green Canyon Block 782 to allow for more than a dozen initial cuts with a custom-engineered saw.
After the cuts are made, BP will weld padeyes for lifting the drilling module off the spar, which was severly damaged during Hurricane Ike in September 2008. In its place will go a new 4600-tonne platform rig.
