They say that this would involve drilling three kilometres to four kilometres beyond the 11.3 kilometres aready achieved with the M16 production well, drilled in 1999 from a land-based drill site into Poole Bay.
A successful outcome in meeting the various challenges would enable the operator to tap the 98/7-2 discovery in the offshore section of the major Sherwood reservoir at a depth of 1600 metres.
