BP HAS been forced into an embarrassing climbdown after four months of consultations over its controversial plans to replace its UK North Sea standby vessel fleet with search-and-rescue helicopters. The supermajor, which had come under considerable pressure from MPs, trade unions, vessel operators and the workforce to drop its plans, has decided to put off any final decision on the matter for at least two years.
