Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell is drilling a large gas prospect within tie-back distance of its Prelude floating liquefied natural gas vessel off north-west Australia, writes Russell Searancke.

The Bratwurst-1 exploration well is located in 155 metres of water in Block AC/P64 of the northern Browse basin.

Shell has the semi-submersible rig Ocean Apex on hire for the drilling of Bratwurst-1.

“If significant gas condensate volumes are discovered during this campaign, there is a future potential for a tie-back to the Prelude facilities,” Shell said in a regulatory filing.
