The administration of US President Donald Trump last week eased landmark offshore safety rules issued after the 2010 Macondo disaster in the US Gulf of Mexico.
The Bureau of Safety & Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) announced the new well control rule, working to roll back policy formulated by former president Barack Obama.
The rule, the BSEE said, “removes unnecessary regulatory burdens to responsible offshore development while maintaining safety and environmental protection”.
