OPINION: Nigeria was embroiled this week in post-election soul-searching over the legitimacy of presidential and legislative polls in which incumbent head of state Muhammadu Buhari battled for a second term against a former vice-president, the opposition contender Atiku Abubakar.

Buhari was declared the winner by just under 4 million votes, upon which the septuagenarian vowed immediately to “intensify efforts in improving security, restructuring the economy and fighting corruption”.
