Nigerian contract operator Allied Energy, an affiliate of Houston-based Camac International, and technical partner Eni were negotiating intensively this week in Milan to ensure signature within days, contracting sources said.
The formal decision had been delayed for a couple of weeks while partners sought "clarification of contract strategies" and final agreement over the delivery date.
Initial oil shipments from Oyo are targeted for either the end of March or July 2009, delayed from earlier expectations of first oil by the end of December this year.
