Burundi will review its 1976 Petroleum Code in the wake of “convincing oil indices in Lake Tanganyika and the Rusizi River basin”, according to Minister of Energy & Mines, Come Manirakiza.

The Rusizi River basin in the East Africian rift is shared by Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, while Tanzania joins the lineup as a riparian state with claims on Lake Tanganyika.
