Many floating production, storage and offloading vessel operators have promised great potential in the redeployment of FPSOs after their initial assignments.
However, industry hands will tell you that it is hard to get operators to take the leap.
Would specifications of the older FPSO be close enough to match the new field characteristics? Would unforeseen maintenance problems drive up costs? Could the project planners stick with specifications that were “good enough” and resist the temptation to custom-engineer solutions that tend to drive up costs?
