The company said the CLPL-Barracuda-1G/1 well was spud on 4 October 2011 using the drillship Chikyu.
"An update on the well results will be provided at the end of the programme, which is expected to complete by early next year," said Cairn India.
The first well was called CLPL-Dorado-91H/1z, and hit a gross 25-metre hydrocarbon column of predominantly gas-bearing sands. Further drilling is required to establish the commerciality of the discovery.
