US supermajor ConocoPhillips is set to carry out an unusual project in Canada’s Beaufort Sea this summer involving the transport of about 25,000 tonnes of caissons that were used to build the first offshore drilling island in the Canadian Arctic, writes Iain Esau.
The oil company has contracted Norway-based Offshore Heavy Transport (OHT) to load and transport four caissons that were used in the early 1980s to construct Tarsiut Island, which served as a drilling platform.
