PRESIDENT Alberto Fujimori said on Tuesday he will stay at the helm of a transitional government in Peru until elections are held next year, promising to push key economic projects such as the Camisea gas development in the meantime. Fujimori defied opposition demands to allow a new figure to oversee the transition period until a new election, which was called after the release of a video showing intelligence chief Vladimiro Montesinos paying a bribe to a member of Congress.
