The field, which was origin­ally meant to begin output in mid-2008, has the potential to produce up to 2 million cubic metres per day of non-­associated gas through a single well linked to the Saipem-­operated Cidade de Vitoria floating production, storage and offloading vessel.

Canapu is located in water depths of about 1608 metres and is the first deep-water gas production project to go on stream in Brazil.
