THE Car Wash corruption scandal involving Petrobras claimed one of its most important victims this week as Brazil’s lower house voted to impeach its former speaker Eduardo Cunha for allegedly receiving bribes, evading tax and obstructing legislative and judicial procedures.
Cunha, a mastermind of parliamentary procedures, managed to filibuster the motion against him for over a year and his initiation of agenda-hogging impeachment proceedings against former president Dilma Rousseff, in December 2015, was arguably part of this strategy.
