The K5 offshore cryogenic distillation facility, said to be the world’s first, aims to reduce the CO2 concentration from 70% to 6.5%, which will enable the gas to be used as liquefied natural gas feedstock. The removed liquid CO2 will be reinjected into the reservoir 2200 metres beneath the seabed.

Petronas says a proprietary high CO2 corrosion prediction software was developed to predict corrosion rates in environments with high concentrations of CO2 and other impurities, and this will be applied at the K5 phase one project.
