LISA Murkowski was interested in politics from a young age. Besides being involved in student government, as a teenager she worked as an office manager for a gubernatorial candidate well before her father, former Alaska senator and governor Frank Murkowski, even won his first election.
Yet it never occurred to the younger Murkowski, a Republican, to run for office.
“[I was] kind of always on the edge of politics, but always from the perspective of helping others gain office, never thinking I would do it myself,” the current US senator from Alaska tells Upstream.
