President Nicolas Maduro’s grim battle for political survival continued this week amid a growing collapse of utility services in Venezuela, writes Gareth Chetwynd.

With rolling power blackouts and shortages of other essentials bringing Venezuela to a near standstill, a Maduro-controlled constituent assembly stripped opposition leader Juan Guaido of his parliamentary immunities, possibly paving the way for his arrest. Maduro has so far refrained from jailing Guaido, who has the support of the US administration and about 50 other countries.
