RECENT advances in technology such as directional drilling, logging-while-drilling and bit design have contributed significantly to improved drilling economics but none has more potential than drilling-with-casing. In development for the past several years, drilling with standard casing may reduce the total time needed to drill a well by as much as 30%, according to Canada's Tesco, developer of a novel casing-drilling system.
