This technique allows normal rigid steel pipe to be used for the riser lines from seabed to floater, avoiding the need for the expensive flexible pipe that is more often used in this dynamic section of line.
The static pipeline across the seabed is simply continued all the way up to the platform and hung off at a flexjoint support there.
