Chesapeake Energy is ramping up activity in the Powder River basin in Wyoming, where it hit big with its first well targeting the Turner formation, writes Noah Brenner.

The well came on at an initial 24-hour production rate of 2325 barrels of oil equivalent per day (78% oil) from a 7100-foot lateral in Converse County, Wyoming.

“This is an exciting well for us and it’s located right in the middle of our acreage,” Chesapeake chief executive Doug Lawler said during a presentation at the Scotia Howard Weil Energy Conference in New Orleans last week.
